Henry Fairfield Osborn, of the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, was the first to describe Tyrannosaurus rex in 1905. The name Tyrannosaurus rex (T-Rex) means ‘Tyrant Lizard King’. T-Rex had very large teeth the size of bananas, very tiny arms and was one of the largest land carnivores of all time. This enormous dinosaur grew up to forty-eight feet in length: about as large as a New York Interborough Rapid Transit subway car - or a humpback whale!
