The waters of the Atlantic Ocean abound with a variety of fish. A recent survey indicates that the greatest concentration of fish in the Atlantic Ocean reside in an area between Florida, Cuba and the Bahamas known as the Florida Straits. This area is home to the greatest concentration of species not found anywhere else, and are considered ‘micro-endemic’ because their ranges are restricted to small geographical features, such as isolated island platforms or coastal lagoons. With ranges so small, even localized human activities put many of these fish at risk for extinction.
