The Fossa (Cryptoprocta ferox) is the largest carnivorous mammal on the island of Madagascar. They can reach nearly six feet in length (including their long tails!) They look like a cross between a cat, a dog and a mongoose but belong to their own family: the Eupleridae. Often overshadowed by the widespread interest in Madagascar's lemurs, like much of Madagascar’s biodiversity, fossas are faced with extinction. Learn more about this fascinating, enigmatic species in the article "Saving Madagascar’s Largest Carnivorous Mammal: the Fossa" focusing on the research of Mia-Lana Lührs at: https://news.mongabay.com/2011/02/saving-madagascars-largest-carnivorous-mammal-the-fossa/
