Sea Otters (Enhydra lutris) ‌are considered a 'keystone species' that help to maintain local biodiversity. The sea otter is the smallest marine mammal in North America. Unlike other marine mammals, sea otters don’ t have blubber to keep them warm, and instead have the thickest fur of any mammal. Because of their highly valued coats, sea otters were hunted almost to extinction and are still listed as ‘endangered’ by the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Learn more about sea otters at: https://www.montereybayaquarium.org/visit/exhibits/sea-otters and Monterey Bay Aquairum's online otter course for Pre-K-2 at: https://montereybayaquarium.thinkific.com/courses/otter-spotters
