The snout of the Short-Snouted Seahorse (Hippocampus hippocampus) is bowl shaped, and is less than a third of the total head length. This proportion makes the eyes appear much larger. Residents of sea-grasses and seaweeds, the short snouted seahorse can be found in the Mediterranean Sea and parts of the North Atlantic, particularly around Italy and the Canary Islands. Colonies of this species have recently been discovered in the River Thames around London.
