Original artwork © 2014 Samara E. King & TwoBee, LLC rendered in color pencil for the American Museum of Natural History.

How Large was a T-Rex? Henry Fairfield Osborn, of the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, was the first to describe Tyrannosaurus rex in 1905. The name Tyrannosaurus rex (T-Rex) means ‘Tyrant Lizard King’. T-Rex had very large teeth the size of bananas, very tiny arms and was one of the largest land carnivores of all time. This enormous dinosaur grew up to forty-eight feet in length: about as large as a New York Interborough Rapid Transit subway car - or a humpback whale! Learn more about this amazing dinosaur at: https://www.amnh.org/dinosaurs/tyrannosaurus-rex
